Biringan : The Lost City
- Samar is a place full of beauty
- If you fancy yourself an explorer, you’ll go giddy at the thought of Samar’s numerous cave systems and beautiful cultural heritage. Among its most famous are the Sohoton Caves, a two-hour trip from the town of Basey. This 840-hectare park features limestone walls, a natural rock bridge, underground rivers, lush forests and caves with stunning and expansive interiors. There’s also Langun-Gobingub Cave in Calbiga, one of the largest karst caves in Southeast Asia.
- Along with its beauty, comes haunting stories along with their beliefs
- The City of Biringan, apparently does not exist in the map of Samar. But this had been causing stir online and even before, as many have testified of its existence.
The island of Samar, 150 miles long, is home, to the hidden city of Biringan. Well-known to the Filipino citizens there, and located somewhere in the northeast quarter of the isle, it is said to exist in a different dimension.
Sailors reported seeing its lights, shining brighter than that of any other coastal city. But captains know to steer clear of this port. In times when traditional fishing areas are overexploited, fishermen who wander into the abundant seafood reserves off the shore of Biringan City, may be unable to chart a course back home.
- According to Jonas T. Lim, City Arts and Culture officer at Biringan City, there had been cases where some products are being ordered from Manila, that was set to be delivered to Biringan City, which also amazes and shocks them at the same time
- Some workers also testified that the orders that should be delivered/ordered to and from Biringan City, were actually named to people who are already deceased a long time ago. And usually, the orders are already fully paid.
“Mga sasakyan, galing Manila at mga kotse. Nagpapadala dito sa Biringan city,” says Amboy Pearoches a resident. [Cars usually from Manila delivers different items to Biringan City.]
“Mga appliances din po. Tapos hinahanap nila iyong tao… tapos ‘yong nag-order daw, ibinigay sa amin ‘yong mga pangalan. Tapos sabi ng mga tao doon, matagal na raw patay,” tells Amboy, a resident too in the said area.
[Usually appliances, then they are looking for certain people. Then they gave us the names, and some people said that these people who should receive the goods are already deceased a long time ago.]
- Lim also told in the interview, that at first he doesn’t believe that the city of Biringan exists, until that moment when their theater group experienced an unexplained scenario during their rehearsals
“I have to trace the name noong bida. Ang ginamit naming pangalan noon, Carolina. Tapos sinabihan kami na kailangan n’yong palitan. So now we have to change Carolina to Marcelina. Tapos may page 12 na ‘di nag-a-appear kapag nagpi-print ako sa computer. ‘Yong rape scene n’ya. Ang sabi namin is kailangan namin maipakita ‘yon. ‘Pag production namin, kailangan mayroon kaming kandila. Kailangan mayroon kaming upuan na naka-reserve, kasi may ganun eh. Ang daming problema hindi siya matuloy,” retells the City Arts Culture officer.
[I have to trace the name of the lead character. We used the name Carolina. Then, someone ordered us to change it to Marcelina. Then the page 12 of our file isn’t printing from the computer. This is Marcelina’s rape scene, and we need to show it to the crowd as we are staging a play. We always light candles, and we reserve seats for her. When we don’t do that, our performances becomes really jinxed.]
- Jonas also says that their theater crew skips on praying as this have been affecting their performances
"Nag-mass kami, tapos during the “Our Father” tumumba lahat yung performers namin. Ewan ko kung coincidence, pero apat na gabi na bilog ang buwan. Everytime nag-o-open ‘yong curtain, ‘yong mga paniki lumalabas,” said Lim in the interview.
[We conducted a mass. After “Our Father” our performers collapsed. I don’t know if it’s coincidence, but this happened four straight days during the full moon. Everytime we open the curtains, bats would usually fly out from it, out of nowhere.]
- Special satellite images were taken by a Japanese corporation, to identify resources on the island of Samar
- Somewhere near the hidden city, the pictures recorded a brightly lit tract of land, which was taken to be deposits of uranium, or gold. The Japanese then based their ground operations in San Jorge. But the Engkantos jealously guard the treasures of the deep forest.
